Dine in Heritage
Immerse yourself in an unforgettable dining experience... ALBERGUE 1601 is nestled in the heart of the St. Lazarus Quarter, one of the best preserved historical neighbourhoods in Macau that resembles much like Portugal. The moment you set foot in the area, you can imagine yourself getting lost in the little alleys of Lisbon. Enjoy a traditional menu prepared by our Executive Chef Pedro Almeida, pairing with a wide selection of wines from some of the finest regions of Portugal.
Then & Now... One of two camphor trees can be seen on the right side of the photo standing at was less than 10 feet tall. Today, both trees soar high above the buildings overlooking the courtyard of the Albergue.
Our Heritage
Albergue da Santa Casa da Misericordia (SCM) is more than history. ALBERGUE 1601, the restaurant, occupies only one of 3 buildings within this complex. The buildings were once sanctuaries to those escaping war and personal uncertainty. And while the courtyard heard conversations that echoed fears from the past, it also witnessed hope for the future.
Albergue SCM is part of the St. Lazarus Quarter, where Portuguese style homes and alleyways line the streets, replicating the urban feel in Lisbon. In the 16th century, the district housed a leprosarium, placed right outside the city wall that separated the enclave into two sections.
We encourage our guests to explore not only the authentic cuisine by our Portuguese Chef, but also to acknowledge where they are at that moment. Albergue SCM is more than history, it is part of our heritage.
